This WEweek (Whole Emergenetics Week), we are thrilled to have Chris Cox coming to town in Singapore! Chris currently is the Vice President of Training and Development in Emergenetics International, where she leads efforts in continuing education, new product development and facilitation of Emergenetics training, workshops and classes. She is also an Emergenetics Master Trainer, as well as the owner and Chief Learning Officer of AMPLITUDE, a company focused on amplifying the results of leaders and teams.
With so much experience under her belt, she definitely has lots to share with our Emergenetics associates in Asia Pacific.
Let’s get to know Chris better, her thoughts on the importance of learning and what she is looking forward to in Singapore!
Tell us about your beliefs and philosophy in learning.
I believe everyone is meant to be a life-long learner. Learning is what expands our curiosity, our enthusiasm about life, our engagement and ability to fully contribute in changing times and stretches our personal horizons. When learning is creative, fun and engaged through a diverse set of styles, it’s at its most powerful!
Could you share with us one lesson you’ve learnt in your life that you can share with our associates, and hope they can learn from it too.
In my early years as a facilitator, I was very focused on ensuring I had a firm grasp of the material and delivered the material effectively. It was only after I gained experience in the field that I realised it wasn’t about that at all. The key was about how effectively the students received and integrated the information I was sharing and the impact the material had on their work and personal lives. In essence, if the students didn’t change as a result of time spent in a workshop with me, then I had failed them. This changed my entire approach to my work.

You will be talking about the Secret to Effective Teaming at the Emergenetics APAC Symposium. Tell us a bit about the topic you’re going to cover.
“Teaming” is a new view on how groups of individuals are called to work together to resolve complex problems in ambiguous times where an interdependent approach is required. Frequently, teams today are non-local, and may come together for a short time to resolve an issue, then move on to do this with another team. Teaming is an action verb, not a noun. We are not ‘on a team’, we team! I will be talking about this concept and the impact it has on global organisations with complex problems that require fast-paced solutions to stay competitive. Creating a teaming environment starts with an organisational culture where team members understand each others’ strengths and communicate openly and effectively – and Emergenetics is the perfect tool for this. Associates will pick up tips on how to assist organisations, and teams, to better team for success beyond the Meeting of The Minds workshop!

WEweek is kicking off in Singapore this year! What are you looking forward to do in Singapore?
So many things come to mind! The food, of course, is amazing and so diverse. Alvin’s family’s coffee shop is one of my favourite hang-outs with Emergenetics associates. I’d love to see the amazing gardens you have – The Gardens by the Bay, Botanical Gardens, The Orchid Garden are a few. And of course, shopping is always fun in Singapore!
What’s the one local dish/treat you are going to try eating/tasting in Singapore this time round?
Anything Terence, Colin, Alvin, Mark or any other associate recommends. I was never steered wrong by them!
