As we conclude our Motivation Monday applications for Principle #1 of Work That Works, I encourage you to think about bringing balance to our world. Many of us will begin considering volunteering or engaging in the non-profit community – both of which are valuable things to do with your time.
However, as you may recall, the title of this principle is Leadership Is an Inside Job: Know Yourself. Before you focus your efforts externally, I invite you to focus internally and find balance within yourself first.
Inner balance is an important quality in leaders. Your employees, colleagues, friends and family will appreciate it when you are transparent about having struggled with personal challenges and persevered.
For this week’s Motivation Monday, I invite you to take an hour to reflect on the following:
- What opportunities have you had to face your fears?
- What were the outcomes, both positive and constructive?
- When have you had to face the unknown?
- What came from that experience?
Facing one’s fears is never easy, and when you do so, you discover how to achieve greater balance internally, which is a gift you can share with the world.
If you find this week’s application challenging, I look forward to sharing some ideas next month to help you embrace the scratchy!
