I hope that you had an opportunity to reflect on what makes you feel scratchy. As we delve further into Embrace the Scratchy, Principle #2 in my book Work That Works, I invite you to get outside of your comfort zone this month.
One way to do so is to try this exercise from the Work That Works companion card deck: Challenge Yourself.
Each week, try doing one thing that will make you feel scratchy. What items did you write on your list during the week of October 8? Are there any activities from this list that you want to engage in? Is there a new skill you would like to learn? Maybe there is a new habit you would like to begin practicing?
I also invite you to look at your Emergenetics® Profile. Consider some of your least preferred Thinking and Behavioral Attributes. How would flexing into some of these preferences get you outside of your comfort zone, while simultaneously helping you honor your team members?
Once you have written a few things that you would like to do to embrace the scratchy, begin to prioritize these activities. It may help to start small and work up to larger changes; however, the choice is up to you.
Pick one thing and try it this week. Then, next week, choose something else to do. As you consistently implement new practices and activities each week, you will feel more open to going outside your comfort zone on a regular basis.
So, what will your challenge be this week?
